It has to be the worst thing ever when you go from flexing that fabulous beanie to entering a place and your hair becoming a hot mess – from yeet to yikes in a flash. The hat hair struggle is real these days, so here are some tips to get that #GoodHairDay going.
Conditioning + Volumizing = Win
Your hair is all straws in the winter, so get a moisturizing shampoo. Your Douglas Carroll Salon stylist can recommend the best option for your hair. Then use a leave-in conditioner or bond smoother (like Olaplex No. 6) to help rid the static that makes frizzy hair. Bonus points: that extra volume will make your hair harder to flatten. Adding a hair mask to your weekly hair routine is a smart move too.
Totally Dry Your Hair
Don’t leave your house if your hair is not totally dry. Seriously, just don’t. If you leave your hair to dry under the hat, you’ll get flat “beanie head.” Big yikes. Instead, use a round brush and fully dry your hair naturally or with a blowdryer of choice. And when you do get out, make sure your hat is not too tight. Your hair needs breathing space!
Carry Dry Shampoo For a Quick Fix
Even if you do everything right, your hair still might turn into a mess. But don’t freak out – dry shampoo will save your life. Dry shampoo soaks up oils and gives your hair a volume boost. All you have to do is spray it on and finger-comb your hair for an easy fix. Always carry a bottle in your bag.
Cotton & Wool Hats Only
Even with the hottest hair products you can find, your hair will be a mess if you put on a synthetic beanie. Only go with cotton and wool, as these materials give your hair more breathing room and heat up less, meaning less static and less oily hair. If you see “acrylic” or “polyester” on the declaration sticker, change your hat!
Of course, nothing will beat getting your hair done by a pro. If you need help dealing with winter hair in and around Raleigh, reach out to Douglas Carroll Salon!
